Mentors, use this space to share your B&B stories. Why do you B&B? Pictures and video are more than welcome!
Here are some statements from a few exec members and mentors on why they do B&B!
Dan Flynn: I do B&B because every time we go into the schools, I know that the smiles we see on the students’ faces is because we’re there to see them. That moment of joy for them is worth any amount of time during my day.
Kenzie Yess: I do B&B because it is the perfect way to get outside of the Wash U bubble and do something that I love to do. Most people drag their feet that the thought of weekly time commitment, but I genuinely look forward to my chance to go to Shaw and spend time with such amazing kids.
Tori Crnkovich: I love mentoring with B&B because I think it’s a great opportunity to work with students academically and also become their friends/role models. The time we spend tutoring gives students an extra boost in school, whereas our time in the gym allows us to build friendships and have fun. I think we make a great impact on young kids by helping them learn the fundamentals of math and reading–but more importantly, we instill them with great confidence so that they continue striving to do well in school.
Jordan Wurtzel (senior): I do B&B because it gives me the chance to make a difference in someone’s life and be a positive influence. To see the smiles on the kids’ faces when they accomplish something is so rewarding.
Danny Baudoin (sophomore): Participating in Books and Basketball has given me a fulfilling way to get outside of Wash U’s bubble. I enjoy providing a service to my community and love being a part of the kids’ lives
